Arctictis

Arctictis is a genus of civet in the family Viverridae containing a single living species, the binturong, native to South and Southeast Asia including India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, China, Indonesia and the Philippines. It has a thick coat of coarse black hair, a bushy prehensile tail and short stout legs suited to life in trees, and its musk glands emit an odor often compared to popcorn or corn chips. It is an omnivore eating plants, insects and smaller animals, is active at night and twilight, and is listed as Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List because of habitat loss and illegal hunting.
