Poiana

Poiana is a genus in the family Viverridae, commonly known as oyans or African linsangs, consisting of two species native to West and Central Africa, the West African oyan (Poiana leightoni) and the Central African oyan (Poiana richardsonii). Poiana species closely resemble cats in appearance, more so than most other viverrids, but DNA analysis places them within Viverridae as close relatives of the genets rather than of true felids, and the genus sits in the subfamily Genettinae. The Asiatic linsangs of the genus Prionodon, sometimes confused with Poiana because of the shared common name, are a separate genus and may in fact be closer relatives of felids.
