Babirusa

Babirusas, also called deer-pigs, are a genus, Babyrousa, in the swine family found on the Indonesian islands of Sulawesi, Togian, Sula and Buru. Previously classified as a single species, they were split into several species in 2002: the Buru babirusa is now restricted to animals from Buru and Sula, while the best-known species, the North Sulawesi babirusa, is named Babyrousa celebensis; males carry prominent, upward-curving canine tusks that pierce the flesh of the snout.
