The Indian pangolin lives across the Indian subcontinent, from Pakistan through India, Nepal, and Sri Lanka, in forests, grasslands, and rocky and agricultural land. It has large, coarse scales and a thick tail, digs extensive burrows several meters deep, and feeds almost entirely on ants and termites located by scent. Habitat loss and heavy poaching for the international scale trade have made it Endangered.
