Musk Deer refers to any of the eight species that make up Moschus, the only extant genus of the family Moschidae. Despite the common name, they are not true deer of the family Cervidae but a family more closely related to Bovidae, the group containing antelopes, bovines, sheep and goats, and differ from true deer in lacking antlers and preorbital glands while possessing a single pair of teats, a gallbladder, a caudal gland, a pair of canine tusks and a musk gland of particular economic importance to humans.
