The North American beaver is one of two living beaver species, the other being the Eurasian beaver. Native to North America, it has also been introduced to parts of South America, including Patagonia, and to Europe. It is one of Canada's national symbols and the official state mammal of both Oregon and New York, and it remains widespread across the continental United States, Canada, southern Alaska and parts of northern Mexico.
