Striped dolphin

The striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba) is a member of the oceanic dolphin family Delphinidae found in temperate and tropical waters of every ocean. Adults reach about 2.4 meters in females and 2.6 meters in males, weighing 150 to 160 kilograms, and are marked by one or two black bands that circle each eye and run back across the body to the flipper, with a blue, white or pink underside and black flippers, flukes and dorsal fin. It lives across the North and South Atlantic, the Mediterranean Sea, the Gulf of Mexico, the Indian Ocean and the Pacific, roughly between 40 degrees north and 30 degrees south, generally preferring water between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius. Its diet includes fish, squid, octopus, krill and other crustaceans, with Mediterranean populations favoring hake, sardine and cephalopods, and the total world population is estimated at more than two million, though some regional populations have declined sharply.
