Carnivorans

This group gathers Mammals subcategory members belonging to the order Carnivora, the meat-adapted mammalian order whose members share a distinctive pair of shearing carnassial teeth used to slice flesh and, in most lineages, retractable or semi-retractable claws suited to catching and holding prey. It spans cats and other feliforms, dogs and other caniforms, bears, and the weasel, otter, badger, raccoon, civet, hyena and mongoose families, some of which have shifted toward omnivorous or even largely plant based diets such as the giant panda's bamboo. Because Carnivora is the largest single order among this subcategory's members, it is split into four further groups below: Cats, Dogs and Wild Canids, Bears, and Mustelids, Procyonids and Other Carnivorans.
