Bornean rhinoceros

The Bornean rhinoceros is a subspecies of the Sumatran rhinoceros, scientifically named Dicerorhinus sumatrensis harrissoni, and is the smallest living rhinoceros. Adults weigh 600 to 950 kilograms, stand 1 to 1.5 meters tall, and measure 2 to 3 meters in body length. It has darker skin than other Sumatran rhino subspecies, fringed ears, wrinkles around the eyes, and a prehensile lip. Once found across most of Borneo, it now survives only in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, after the wild population in Sabah, Malaysia was declared extinct in 2015. Fewer than 15 individuals remain in fragmented wild populations, and the IUCN lists the subspecies as Critically Endangered.
