Bearded emperor tamarin

The bearded emperor tamarin is one of two recognized subspecies of the emperor tamarin, found mainly in the tropical forests of southwestern Brazil and eastern Peru. An omnivorous member of the family Callitrichidae, it typically lives in groups of about four and maintains social bonds with other callitrichids through vocal calls and scent signals, with males usually serving as the primary caregivers for offspring. The International Union for Conservation of Nature lists it as a species of least concern, despite growing threats from habitat loss.
