The chestnut sac-winged bat, Cormura brevirostris, is a small bat of the family Emballonuridae and the only species in its genus, formally described by Wagner in 1843. Adults are about 7 centimeters long and weigh 7 to 11 grams, with brown-black to red-brown fur, darker above and lighter below; males carry wing sacs set unusually far from the body, extending almost to the elbow rather than close to the body as in related species. It ranges through Central and South America from eastern Ecuador and Peru through northern Bolivia to central Brazil, and north through Colombia, Venezuela and the Guyanas to eastern Nicaragua, living in subtropical and tropical moist lowland forest; no subspecies are recognized.
