Clymene dolphin

The Clymene dolphin (Stenella clymene) is a dolphin found only in the Atlantic Ocean, from New Jersey and southern Morocco in the north to Angola and Rio de Janeiro in the south, favoring temperate and tropical waters. It is the only confirmed case of hybrid speciation known among marine mammals, having arisen from hybridization between the spinner dolphin and the striped dolphin, and DNA testing has confirmed this hybrid origin. It closely resembles the spinner dolphin but has a slightly shorter beak and a less upright dorsal fin, with a three layered color pattern of white belly, light gray midband and dark gray back. Adults measure about 2 meters and weigh 75 to 80 kilograms, and feed at night or in mesopelagic waters on squid and small schooling fish.
