Dark fruit-eating bat

The dark fruit-eating bat, Artibeus obscurus, is a species of bat in the family Phyllostomidae found across the Amazon Basin, including Brazil outside its southernmost regions, the Guianas, and Amazonian areas from Venezuela to Bolivia. It is relatively small, about 8 centimeters long and weighing 30 to 52 grams, with dark brown to sooty black fur lightly frosted with white, paler underparts, faint pale stripes on the face, and a broad, distinctly horseshoe shaped nose leaf. It occupies rainforest from sea level to 1,400 meters and, in the southern part of its range, savanna and semi deciduous forest; no subspecies are recognized, and the IUCN assesses it as Least Concern.
