Emperor tamarin

The emperor tamarin, Saguinus imperator, is a small primate of the family Callitrichidae found in northern Brazil and the southwestern Amazon Basin across Peru and Bolivia. It carries mostly grey fur with yellowish speckles on the chest, black hands and feet, and a long white beard said to have given the species its name, after a supposed resemblance to the mustache of the German emperor Wilhelm II. Adults measure roughly 23 to 26 centimeters in body length with a tail of 35 to 41.5 centimeters, and weigh about 500 grams. The species lives in rainforest canopy, moving quickly through the trees and rarely descending to the ground, and is assessed as Least Concern by the IUCN.
