European mouflon

The European mouflon (Ovis aries musimon) is a feral subspecies of the primitive domestic sheep, originally native to western Asia but now found across Europe. The largest current populations live in the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary and Austria, with smaller populations in Spain, Poland, France, Slovenia, Slovakia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Bulgaria, and the original Mediterranean populations on Corsica and Sardinia persist at lower numbers. Because it descends from ancient domestic livestock gone feral, the IUCN does not give the subspecies its own conservation assessment and treats it as domesticated rather than wild.
