Living Microorganism Genera is a Browse By group of the Nature Atlas that gathers genera of single-celled and other microscopic organisms that are alive today and are unusual in their cell biology or their lineage, such as Parakaryon, a single-celled organism with features of both prokaryotes and eukaryotes, and Microcaldus, a genus of ultra-small archaea that lives symbiotically with other microbes. An entry belongs here when its own cited article describes a genus of microorganisms that is known from living cells or from living communities rather than only from fossils. It excludes extinct fossil genera. The group collects living microbes that do not fit the familiar bacteria, yeasts or protists, so it shows how much of the living microscopic world is still being described.
