Thermococcales

Microorganism Orders

Thermococcales is an order of archaea in the class Thermococci. All known members are obligate anaerobes that ferment sugars for energy and carbon but additionally require elemental sulfur for their metabolism, a combination of traits that makes the order valuable as a model system for studying extreme microbial physiology.
