The windowpane oyster, also called the window shell or jingle shell, is a bivalve marine mollusk in the family Placunidae. It is edible but valued more for its shell, which has been used for thousands of years as a substitute for glass because of its durability and translucence, and more recently in decorative items such as chandeliers and lampshades; in the Philippines the shell is known as capiz and is also used as a raw material for glue, chalk and varnish.
