Clams, oysters, mussels and scallops: mollusks enclosed within a shell made of two hinged valves, with no distinct head and, in most species, a life spent filter-feeding while partly or fully buried in sediment or attached to a hard surface. Bivalvia is exclusively aquatic, in both marine and freshwater habitats.
