Chimaera monstrosa, commonly called the rabbit fish, is the type species of the genus Chimaera, a group of cartilaginous fish known as holocephalans that are related to sharks and rays. It was first described by Linnaeus in 1758, and the genus Chimaera now includes 16 living species within the family Chimaeridae alongside several fossil species dating from the Eocene to the Pliocene.
