Cambrian Fossil Animal Genera

Cambrian Fossil Animal Genera is a Browse By group of the Nature Atlas that gathers genera of soft-bodied and early animals known only from fossils of the Cambrian period, such as the squid-like Nectocaris and the worm-like Amiskwia and Myoscolex from the Burgess Shale and related sites. An entry belongs here when its own cited article states that the genus is known from the Cambrian. It excludes arthropod genera placed in a named arthropod group and fossils from other periods. These animals lived more than 500 million years ago, soon after complex animal life appeared, and are known from rare fossils that preserve soft tissue, so their place on the animal family tree has often been argued over.
