Carboniferous Fossil Arthropod Genera

Carboniferous Fossil Arthropod Genera is a Browse By group of the Nature Atlas that gathers genera of extinct arthropods known from fossils of the Carboniferous period, such as the eurypterid Unionopterus, known from one specimen found in Kazakhstan, and the arachnid Plesiosiro, known from nine specimens found in the West Midlands of England. The Carboniferous, about 359 to 299 million years ago, was the age of the great coal forests, when arthropods were already living on land and in fresh and brackish water, so these fossils record sea scorpions and early arachnids from that time. It excludes arthropod fossils from other periods.
