Its largest family, Liliaceae, includes lilies, tulips, and fritillaries, while other families in the order include Smilacaceae, Colchicaceae, Melanthiaceae, and Alstroemeriaceae. Most members are perennials with food storage organs such as corms and rhizomes, and the order is widely distributed across temperate and subtropical regions.
