Teiidae, commonly called whiptails, racerunners and tegus, is a family of lizards native to the Americas, comprising about 150 species across 18 genera in two subfamilies, Teiinae and Tupinambinae. The family is the sister group of Gymnophthalmidae, together forming Teiioidea, and several teiid species reproduce by parthenogenesis, producing offspring without fertilization.
