Osteolaemus is a genus of small, secretive crocodiles known as African dwarf crocodiles, comprising two species that occur in wetlands of West and Middle Africa, including the Congo River and Ogooue River basins. The genus name, from Ancient Greek words for bone and throat, refers to bony throat armor, and unlike other crocodiles, Osteolaemus species are strictly nocturnal.
