Sea turtle genera are the genera of the marine turtles. The family Cheloniidae holds seven living species within five genera, among them Eretmochelys, Caretta, Chelonia and Lepidochelys, while the genus Dermochelys sits in its own family, the Dermochelyidae. Cheloniid sea turtles occur worldwide in all tropical oceans, are truly marine with females coming ashore only to nest, and range from 71 cm in the olive ridley, Lepidochelys olivacea, to 213 cm in the loggerhead, Caretta caretta. They have flippers instead of limbs, cannot retract the head into the shell, and are the only turtles whose front limbs are stronger than the back limbs.
