The rock araucaria is a comparatively modest conifer in the family Araucariaceae, with mature trees ranging from 4 to 20 meters, growing in shrubland on steep coastal slopes below 300 meters in New Caledonia, to which it is endemic. The IUCN Red List classifies it as Endangered: much of its habitat overlaps active nickel mining operations, and none of its small, restricted populations lie within protected areas.
