The scrub kauri, also called mountain kauri, is a conifer in the family Araucariaceae endemic to New Caledonia, occurring mainly in the southeast of the island with two smaller isolated populations further northwest. It varies greatly in form, reaching up to 25 meters in forest but usually growing as a shrub or small tree of 1 to 8 meters in scrubland, with oval leaves 4 to 8 centimeters long and whitish tan bark that is red brown underneath. The IUCN Red List classifies it as Vulnerable, threatened by logging and mining that destroy its montane scrubland and forest habitat.
