Heliconius charithonia, known as the zebra longwing or zebra heliconian, is a species of butterfly in the subfamily Heliconiinae of the family Nymphalidae. It was first described by Carl Linnaeus in the 1767 twelfth edition of Systema Naturae. Its boldly striped black and white wing pattern is aposematic, warning off predators, and it is the official state butterfly of Florida.
