Wood Blewit

Fungi

Lepista nuda, the wood blewit, is an edible mushroom notable for the violet or lilac coloration of its cap, gills and stem, especially pronounced in young specimens before fading with age. It grows in leaf litter in woodlands, hedgerows and gardens across temperate regions, and while widely collected and eaten, it is generally recommended to be well cooked first, since raw or undercooked specimens can cause gastrointestinal upset in some people.
