Home›Roundworms and Flatworms›Roundworms (Nematoda)GroupRoundworms (Nematoda)Roundworms, the nematodes, number more than 15,000 known species, and a single handful of garden soil can hold many thousands of individuals. If current estimates of undiscovered species are close, they would be the second most diverse group of animals after the arthropods. The body is long and narrow like a tiny thread, which is the origin of the name, since nema is Greek for thread. A tough, flexible cuticle serves as a skeleton and is shed periodically, usually four times before adulthood. All the muscles run lengthwise, so a nematode can only bend from side to side. Current studies place nematodes in the Ecdysozoa with the arthropods and priapulids.Browse BySourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)Browse ByAll Roundworms (Nematoda)Roundworms (Nematoda)8 entriesRoundworms (Nematoda)Filter Results8 entriesCommon GroupAllRoundworms (Nematoda) (8)TaxonomyAllEcdysozoa (1)Nematoda (7)HabitatAllBoreal Forest (1)Chaparral (2)Desert (3)Lake (2)River (2)Tropical Rainforest (2)Tundra (1)Conservation StatusAllNot Evaluated (6)Everyday GroupAllRoundworms (Nematoda) (8)DietAllCarnivore (1)Detritivore or Scavenger (1)Parasitic (6)System (Realm)AllFreshwater (4)Marine (1)Terrestrial (5)Relationship to PeopleAllDisease Vector (5)Ecotourism and Research (2)Living or ExtinctAllYes (2)Where It LivesAllArgentina (1)Belgium (1)Brazil (2)Bulgaria (1)Canada (1)Central Africa (1)Central America (1)China (4)Denmark (4)Egypt (1)Italy (1)Netherlands (1)New Zealand (1)Norway (5)Poland (1)Portugal (2)South America (1)South Korea (1)Spain (1)Suriname (1)Sweden (4)Taiwan (1)Thailand (1)Ukraine (1)United States (2)West Africa (1)Show ResultsBrowseCompareSelect all 8Ascaris LumbricoidesRoundworms and Flatworms1 linkCaenorhabditis ElegansRoundworms and Flatworms1 linkCapillaria aerophilaRoundworms and Flatworms1 linkLoa LoaRoundworms and Flatworms4 linksRoundwormRoundworms and Flatworms2 linksToxocara canisRoundworms and Flatworms3 linksTrichinella SpiralisRoundworms and Flatworms5 linksWuchereria BancroftiRoundworms and Flatworms4 linksSourcesUC Museum of Paleontology: Introduction to the NematodaUC Museum of PaleontologyIntroduction to the NematodaQuote, Introduction to the NematodaNot only are there more than 15,000 known species of roundwormsView the SourceWikipedia: Wuchereria bancroftitier 2WikipediaHas Member: Wuchereria Bancrofti, LeadQuote, Has Member: Wuchereria Bancrofti, LeadWuchereria bancrofti is a filarial (arthropod-borne) nematode (roundworm) that is the major cause of lymphatic filariasis.View the SourceLoa loa filariasis (Wikipedia)Has Member: Loa Loa, LeadQuote, Has Member: Loa Loa, LeadLoa loa filariasis or loiasis is a skin and eye disease caused by the nematode worm Loa loa.View the SourceCapillaria aerophila (Wikipedia)Has Member: Capillaria aerophila, LeadQuote, Has Member: Capillaria aerophila, LeadCapillaria aerophila is a nematode parasite found in the respiratory tract of foxes, dogs, and various other carnivorous mammals.View the SourceWikipedia: Ascaris lumbricoidestier 2WikipediaHas Member: Ascaris Lumbricoides, LeadQuote, Has Member: Ascaris Lumbricoides, LeadAscaris lumbricoides is a large parasitic roundworm of the genus Ascaris.View the SourceWikipedia: NematodeHas Member: Roundworm, LeadQuote, Has Member: Roundworm, LeadThe nematodes ( NEM-ə-tohdz, NEE-mə-), roundworms or eelworms constitute the phylum Nematoda (Ancient Greek: Νηματώδη; Latin: Nematoda).View the SourceWikipedia: Caenorhabditis eleganstier 2WikipediaHas Member: Caenorhabditis Elegans, LeadQuote, Has Member: Caenorhabditis Elegans, LeadCaenorhabditis elegans () is a free-living transparent nematode about 1 mm in length that lives in temperate soil environments.View the SourceWikipedia: Trichinella spiralistier 2WikipediaHas Member: Trichinella Spiralis, LeadQuote, Has Member: Trichinella Spiralis, LeadTrichinella spiralis is a viviparous nematode parasite, occurring in rodents, pigs, bears, hyenas and humans, and is responsible for the disease trichinosis.View the SourceToxocara canis (Wikipedia)Has Member: Toxocara canis, LeadQuote, Has Member: Toxocara canis, LeadToxocara canis (T. canis, also known as dog roundworm) is a worldwide-distributed helminth parasite that primarily infects dogs and other canids, but can also infect other animals including humans.View the SourceComments (0)No comments yet.
