The African butter catfish is a species of fish in the family Schilbeidae, native to many major river systems in Africa. It is also known by the common names butter fish, butter barbel, African glass catfish, lubangu, mystus catfish, silver barbel, and silver catfish, and was originally described as Silurus mystus by Carl Linnaeus in 1758.
