Bacillus thuringiensis serotype israelensis, commonly abbreviated Bti, is a group of bacteria used as a biological control agent against the larvae of certain dipterans. Along with other Bacillus thuringiensis products, it produces toxins lethal to various mosquito, fungus gnat, and blackfly species while having negligible effects on most other organisms. Even though Bti has minimal direct effects on non-target organisms, it can still carry knock-on effects on food webs and other ecosystem properties, including biodiversity and ecosystem functioning.
