Balanus glandula is a species of acorn barnacle found along the Pacific coast of North America from Alaska to Bahia de San Quintin in Baja California. It lives in the upper intertidal zone on rocks, wood, pier pilings and other organisms, and it tolerates challenging conditions including estuaries by drawing oxygen from both water and air. It grows to about 22 millimeters across in a cylindrical rather than conical shape, has a shell of overlapping calcareous plates with a heavily ridged white operculum, and can live for roughly ten years.
