Basket Stinkhorn, scientifically Clathrus ruber and the type species of its genus, is a fungus in the family Phallaceae also known as the latticed stinkhorn or red cage, named for its striking fruit body shaped like a round or oval hollow sphere with interlaced, latticed branches. It was illustrated in the scientific literature as early as the 16th century but was not formally described until 1729.
