Bicknell's thrush

Bicknell's thrush is a medium sized thrush, about 17.5 centimeters long and weighing about 28 grams. One of North America's rarest and most localized songbirds, it breeds on coniferous mountain tops and disturbed habitats of northeastern North America. It closely resembles the gray cheeked thrush in appearance and voice, though the two differ slightly in morphology and vocalization and breed in entirely different ranges. It is named for Eugene Bicknell, an American amateur ornithologist who made the first scientific record of the species on Slide Mountain in the Catskills in the late nineteenth century.
