Booklice, also called barklice or psocids, are small, soft-bodied insects of the order Psocoptera, some of which are commonly found indoors feeding on mold, fungal spores and starchy materials such as book bindings and wallpaper paste, from which the common name derives. Most of the several thousand described species instead live outdoors on tree bark, leaves and dead wood, where they graze on lichen, algae and fungi, and despite the name they are not true lice and do not feed on blood.
