Brine Shrimp

Brine shrimp are small aquatic crustaceans found in highly saline lakes and lagoons across the world, able to tolerate salt concentrations far too high for nearly all other animal life. Their eggs can dry out completely and remain dormant for years, hatching only once returned to salt water, a trait that has made the species easy to ship and sell commercially as fish food and as the novelty pets marketed as Sea-Monkeys. In the wild, their large, filter-feeding populations are an important food source for migratory waterbirds at salt lakes worldwide.
