Butomus umbellatus is a Eurasian plant species and the only member of the family Butomaceae, commonly called flowering rush or grass rush. It is a rhizomatous, hairless, perennial aquatic plant that was introduced to North America as an ornamental but has since become a serious invasive weed around the Great Lakes and in parts of the Pacific Northwest, while in Israel, one of its native countries, it is endangered due to habitat loss. It also grows locally in Great Britain, including at the Caldicot and Wentloog Levels.
