Calluna vulgaris, commonly called common heather or ling, is the only species in the genus Calluna, part of the heath family Ericaceae. It is a low growing evergreen shrub that usually reaches 20 to 50 centimeters tall, occasionally taller, and grows widely across Europe and Asia Minor on acidic soils in open, sunny places and in moderate shade.
