The checkerboard worm lizard is a species of amphisbaenian in the family Trogonophidae, and the only extant species in the genus Trogonophis. It is endemic to North Africa, where its natural habitats include temperate forests, Mediterranean-type shrubby vegetation, temperate grassland, sandy shores, arable land, and pastureland, and it is threatened by habitat loss.
