Clear Lake hitch

The Clear Lake hitch is a freshwater fish in the minnow family Leuciscidae, and a subspecies of the hitch, Lavinia exilicauda chi, endemic to Clear Lake in California. These minnows grow to more than 35 centimeters in standard length, live four to six years, and migrate each winter and spring into tributary streams to spawn. Local Pomo tribes call the fish chi and historically harvested it during its spawning runs. The subspecies is considered critically imperiled by NatureServe and was listed as threatened by the state of California in 2014.
