The common iora is a small passerine bird found across the tropical Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia, with populations showing plumage variation that has led to several recognized subspecies. It lives in scrub and forest and is easily noticed for its loud whistles and bright colors, and during the breeding season males display by fluffing up their feathers and spiraling through the air, appearing as a ball of green, black, yellow and white.
