Cyanophora paradoxa is a freshwater species of glaucophyte algae used as a model organism. It has two chloroplast-like organelles called cyanelles, where photosynthesis occurs, which unusually retain a rudimentary peptidoglycan cell wall. Its cyanelle genome was sequenced and published in 1995, and its nuclear genome was sequenced and published in 2012.
