De Laubenfels' Araucaria

De Laubenfels' araucaria is a conifer in the family Araucariaceae found only on Grande Terre, the main island of New Caledonia, with populations concentrated on mountains including Mont Mou, Mont des Sources, Mont Dzumac, and Mont Dou in the south and smaller groups on Mont Kaala and Mont Canala in the north. It is one of the larger native New Caledonian araucarias, sometimes reaching 50 meters in rainforest canopy, and may live 500 years or longer. The IUCN lists it as Near Threatened; recent genetic research suggests it may not be clearly distinct from the more widespread Araucaria montana, though this remains debated.
