Driver Ant (Dorylus)

Driver Ant, also called safari ant or siafu, is the common name for the genus Dorylus, a large genus of army ants found primarily in central and east Africa, with its range also extending to southern Africa and tropical Asia. Unlike New World army ants, driver ants form temporary subterranean bivouacs they excavate themselves, are generalist rather than specialist predators, and form colonies that can contain over 20 million individuals, with queens that are the largest living ants known, measuring between 40 and 63 millimeters in total body length.
