Dumbo Octopus

Dumbo octopus, Grimpoteuthis, is a genus of pelagic, finned deep-sea octopuses in the order Cirrata, comprising seventeen recognized species living in the extreme depths of the ocean worldwide. Its common name comes from its resemblance to the title character of Disney's 1941 film Dumbo, owing to a pair of prominent ear-like fins extending from its mantle above each eye, which it flaps for fin-propelled swimming rather than relying on jet propulsion like most other octopuses. It preys on crustaceans, bivalves, worms and copepods found on or near the seafloor.
