Empusa pennata, known as the conehead mantis, is a species of praying mantis in the genus Empusa native to the Mediterranean region. It is found in Portugal, Spain, southern France, Italy, and the Mediterranean coasts of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Turkey and Egypt. Its cryptic appearance, and possibly its fragmented, low-density populations, mean it is rarely encountered in the wild.
