Encephalartos ferox is a small cycad with a subterranean trunk up to thirty five centimeters wide, found naturally along the southeastern coast of Africa. Its name comes from the Latin word for ferocious, likely a reference to the spine tipped lobes on its leaves, and it is considered one of the most popular cycads in cultivation.
