Eurasian golden oriole

The Eurasian golden oriole is a passerine about 24 centimetres long with a wingspan of 44 to 45 centimetres, the only Old World oriole that breeds in the temperate Northern Hemisphere. It is a summer migrant across Europe and the Palearctic that winters in central and southern Africa, and its breeding range runs from western Europe and Scandinavia east to China. Males show the bold black and yellow plumage typical of orioles while females are a more subdued green, and despite the male's bright colour the species is elusive, keeping largely to the forest canopy. It once bred in Great Britain, where the last confirmed breeding was in East Anglia in 2009, and during autumn migration through the eastern Mediterranean it feeds on fruit and is sometimes considered an agricultural pest.
